Let's go!

At EcoChoice, we value transparency in our supply chain. We are making a difference in the timber industry, bringing sustainable timber to UK construction, and supporting FSC and PEFC-certified forests. With that in mind, we are often asked the provenance of our Larch timbers, and we thought we would clear up any questions with a quick, no-nonsense guide.

Sourcing British and European Larch

We supply British and European Larch at EcoChoice. British Larch is, of course, grown in the UK, and European Larch is usually grown in Austria or Germany. It is a tough, durable timber which is well-suited to external applications, including cladding and decking. British Larch is grown in both native woodlands and purpose-built plantations, providing construction teams with a cost-effective, reliable and home-grown timber.

Why Don’t We Supply Siberian Larch?

We used to supply Siberian Larch as well, but we have ceased all sourcing of this timber since the Russia-Ukraine war. Because most of Siberian Larch is sourced from Russia and Belarus, it is officially classed as a conflict timber, with sales of the wood potentially being used to fund the war. As part of our ethos at EcoChoice, we never supply timbers that have been sourced unethically, ensuring that your Larch always comes from a responsible supplier.

What Are Conflict Timbers?

Conflict timbers are woods harvested and traded in ways that directly contribute to funding wars, violence or human rights abuses. Buying or selling them can fuel conflict, which is why we avoid them and instead focus on responsibly sourced alternatives that support sustainable forestry and fair trade.

Sourcing FSC/PEFC Certified Larch

At EcoChoice, we are committed to supplying only FSC and PEFC-certified Larch, ensuring every board of timber can be traced back to responsibly managed forests. These certifications guarantee that forests are harvested in a way that protects biodiversity, supports local communities and allows the woodland to regenerate for future use. Just some of the principles these woodlands must follow include:

  • Never overharvesting a single species of timber
  • Allowing felled trees to replenish naturally
  • Protecting habitats and ecosystems
  • Respecting workers’ rights

By choosing Larch certified in this way, you are not only investing in a high-quality, durable timber but also helping to promote sustainable forestry practices. This responsible approach keeps forests healthy and reduces illegal logging, supporting a kinder system for people and the planet.
