Bespoke Glulam Structures
We provide Glulam in a range of temperate and tropical species to create structures including:
- Footbridges
- Arches
- Structural beams
- Roofs
- Floor joists
It can also be used to create entire building structures, as shown in our Bembridge Station Project. Sourced from FSC-certified forests, we support sustainable timber production and the responsible management of forest land.
Work With Timber Experts
At EcoChoice, we live, breathe and dream timber. If you are thinking about creating a Glulam structure but are not sure where to start, we can help. Let us know your plans and we will tell you more about how that would work with Glulam, or recommend a different timber if we consider that to be a better choice. For project managers, architects and homeowners who have not worked with Glulam before, we are here to guide you through the process.
What Is Glulam?
Glulam stands for Glued Laminated timber, and it is widely viewed as an eco-friendly construction material. Using smaller components from timber – usually offcuts and otherwise unusable pieces of wood – to form larger planks with enhanced structural properties, it is a versatile form of timber which can be shaped to your specifications.
How Glulam Is Made
The technology behind Glulam uses strong glue to bond together many pieces of timber to form one large structure. Advancements in the way it is made mean that enormous structures can be created from one whole piece of Glulam. Many architects and builders are opting for Glulam over concrete or steel, citing it as easier to work with and better for the environment, giving their projects a sustainable edge.
Benefits of Glulam
Because it is made from multiple smaller parts rather than a single plank of timber straight from the tree, you are not constrained to certain shapes when creating Glulam structures. From arches to twisting, interlocking curves, unleash your creativity and push the boundaries of timber construction.
Glulam is an incredibly strong timber, too. A high load-bearing weight whilst being lightweight itself makes it easy to work with, and overlapping layers of timber create a tougher, more durable piece of wood. The final appearance of Glulam is one with fewer knots and defects than traditional timber, too, creating a neat and consistent appearance.
Glulam is less prone to chemical damage, warping and fire damage than traditional timber, helping you meet safety standards during and after construction.

In UK construction, steel and concrete are common building materials. Strong, durable and reliable, it is really no surprise that we see these two all the time! But they are not the most eco-friendly options out there. If you are looking to earn some green points when building, it is wise to look for alternatives which are kinder to the planet and more abundantly available. Enter Glulam.
Laminated timber is being used more and more often in the construction industry. Strong, sustainable and attractive, it offers a range of benefits over other building materials. Here, we take a closer look at some of the most popular forms of laminated timber available.
